Michael Deason-Barrow, Director of Tonalis, is a master singing teacher and an inspirational choir trainer who runs courses and training on all aspects of voicework and choral singing, e.g. therapeutic/sacred perspectives, conducting, improvisation & world voices.
He is an expert on holistic singing and the use of Alexander Technique in voice work, choral singing and conducting, and has taught at the 2004 International Congress for Alexander Technique Teachers in Oxford and at the Conference for Alexander teachers in Music Conservatoires.
He gives voice master classes in music conservatoires on the one hand, whilst working with community choirs and people with voice pathologies on the other. He has particular expertise in world music vocal techniques and traditions.
His books include Sing with the Whole Voice – the Elements of Voicework, Sing Freedom – a Handbook of Voice Exercises and The Art of Practice. Michael’s new vision of singing and choirs was recently featured in The Singer Magazine.
