Blue Jasmine (15)

Mon 03 March 1.00pm,

Cate Blanchett stars in Woody Allen’s acclaimed drama about a newly penniless socialite attempting to rebuild her life.

Sophisticated, elegant New Yorker Jasmine used to have it all. But then it turned out that her businessman husband Hal was a swindler. So now Jasmine is broke and on her own with a head full of Xanax and Stoli. She heads for San Francisco and the modest apartment where her non-biological sister Ginger lives. But the neurotic, hard-drinking interloper struggles to adjust to her lowly station in life. She also loudly disapproves of her sister’s new boyfriend, Chili, branding him as big a loser as Ginger’s ex-hubby, Augie .Woody Allen continues his current purple patch with this delicious and often very funny character study. Cate Blanchett is on top regal form as the brittle and myopic Jasmine, who is the unwitting agent of her own downfall. 98mins
